Rev. John Mahon

Rev. Mahon and his wife Eleanor have been married over 30 years and have four grown children. All have active ministries in their respective churches, have served on the mission field and live vibrant Christians lives. As children they were active in the church, as teens they served in leadership capacities in their churches and each served as president of the Christian Student Union in their High School. During their University years they were active in campus ministries, lead Bible studies, were involved in campus evangelism and used their summers for Christian service both in the US and on the mission field.

Eleanor graduated from the University of Texas with dual degrees in French and Elementary Education. Dedicating herself to her family for the first 17 years of their marriage, she returned to teach both French and Spanish only after their youngest child was established in school. Once the children were grown she left her career serve in the GCI office and travel and minister with John. She is active in their church and travels with John to assist in the presentation of the Family Discipleship Seminar. Additionally she has an active ministry as a women’s church conferences.

Rev. Mahon graduated from the University of Texas with a B.S. in secondary education. After teaching in Austin Independent School District, he accepted the call of God from the Navigators to the ministry where he served for over 25 years. As such he has ministered in the college, community and missions arm of the Navigators. In addition Rev. Mahon has earned his Master of Arts in Ministry from Moody Graduate School in Chicago, Illinois. He is currently pursuing his doctorate with Trinity Divinity School. As an extension of his ministry with the Navigators, he has served as Interim Pastor, Family Discipleship Minister and Pastor. Having spoken extensively in the US and overseas in such varying locals as U.K., Finland, Russia, Belarus, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Nigeria, India, the Middle East and Cameroon, Rev. Mahon now draws on this diverse ministry to and with the family in bringing you the Family Discipleship Seminar.

Rev. Mahon is currently Director of Grace Community International and is now devoting himself to the Lord through the ministry of the Family Discipleship Seminar; The Covenant of Marriage Seminar and related topics.. When not presenting these seminars internationally he makes his services available to his home church, Conroe Bible Church, as well as leading Bible studies in Houston and speaking at conferences and churches in the US.

Educational Background:

  • Graduated from the Veterinary School of the University of Nairobi, Kenya in June 1984.
  • Graduated with a Masters degree in Parasitology from Oklahoma State University May 1997.
  • Graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy Parasitology from Oklahoma State May 1991.

Christian growth:

  • Became a believer in Christ in September 1979.
  • Received help in walk with God from various believers trained by the Navigators.
  • Was involved in the International Students ministry at Oklahoma State University between 1985 and 1991 where we led various bible studies.
  • Met John and Eleanor Mahon in 1985 and received first hand help from them in the area of child raising between 1985 and 1990.

Work Experience:

  • Did research for the government of Kenya for 3 years.
  • Presented several scientific papers in Europe, USA, The Caribbean as a result of the veterinary research.
  • Led the students ministry at three Universities in Nairobi, Kenya between 1992 and 1994.
  • Led the Community Ministry in Nairobi between 1995 and 1999 while holding a job in a firm.
  • Became full time Navigator staff from June 1999.
  • With his wife Patience, they hold annual bible studies on parenting in their home.

Experience with Family Discipleship Seminars:

  • Held the first study in 1996 with 4 couples.
  • Continues to hold a similar study with couples annually.
  • Has put together a team of 4 couples who minister with him in the area of Family Discipleship.
  • With the team, they have presented the seminar in various cities in Kenya as well as Kampala Uganda and Harare Zimbabwe.
  • Teach the Family Discipleship workshop to 20 couples annually. The workshop is held over a 12-week period, teaching 2 hours a week.
